Genre: scenes from people’s life in anticipation of winter and waiting for summer
Author: Dmitry Bogoslavsky
Staging: Nikita Kobelev
The inhabitants of a village find themselves in a real whirlabout of passions while wishing desperately to live “normally”. A wife kills her husbands, who drinks and beats her up, conceals the crime, gets married to a good guy who loves her since their school years, but the spirit of the deceased husband keeps haunting her. Is it possible to forget about the past and to go on living without any worry? Is it possible to build one’s happiness on someone else’s misfortune? Emotions overwhelm the characters: tenderness changes into aggression, love – into hate. Cruel and uncompromising narration about Russian life that knows no halftones acquires the scale of a true tragedy in this performance.
The play People’s Love made it into the short list of Eurasia competition, became a big event at the Lyubimovka Festival of Young Playwrights and was the winner of the online voting of the Competition of Competitions of the Golden Mask Festival and National Theatre Award and of the Protagonists-2012 competition. It is the Mayakovsky Theatre where this play has been staged for the first time in Russia.
