Performance “Oblomov” based on the novel of Ivan Goncharov and staged by Artistic Director of Mayakovsky Theatre Mindaugas Karbauskis became the most awaited premiere of 96 season.
The disputed about the main character of the novel is being last for several centuries already. Since XIX century critics consider the antithesis “Oblomov – Stolz” to be the main symbolic center of the novel. In the performance there is no Stolz character at all (the staging was written by Karbauskis himself). Everybody talks about him, but he will appear in Oblomov`s house only for a second – only to give his friend into Olga`s hands.
In the performance Olga takes on Stolz` mission and tries to save Oblomov. But does he really need to be saved?..
“Oblomov” became the 7th collaboration of Barkhin and Karbauskis in Mayakovsky Theatre.
